Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince Movie Review

Review by Siddhartha on 17th July 2009

"Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince" which is the sixth edition in the potter saga is a visual treat to the audience. The makers of this potter movie had decided to make sure that the crazy fans get their money's worth and at the same time the interest in the plot is not lost by virtue of its onscreen adaptation. All said and done its a very difficult task to be faithful to a novel that has driven the whole world crazy and credit should be given to the makers for it. The special effects are brilliant but the major spoiler is the screenplay.

New York Movie Review

Review by Siddhartha on 28th June 2009

Yash Raj Film's "New York" is an emotional story that deals with the link between human emotions and its impact on terrorism. The story written by Aditya Chopra is a perfect potrait of few individuals who surivive in New York city post 9/11 terror attacks. The casting of actors for the lead roles is excellent as they perform their roles to perfection. The glitch in the entire movie might be its ending which could have been better and the same can be told of the american cast who come in supporting roles with reactions that does not sync with the situation nor with the charecter they have been assigned.Read More

Naadodigal Movie Review

Review by Siddhartha on 28th June 2009

After "Subramaniapuram" the same team in Sasikumar and Samuthirakani have joined hands once again to give the audience a rustic village subject. The director had thought that handling a village subject will automatically appeal to the audience. But, in reality he had forgotten that whatever the subject may be it has to have a strong and crisp screenplay which is defenitely missing in this "Naadodigal". The movie begins on a casual note and later turns into a serious one but only after lots of dragging moments which could have been avoided.

Muthirai Movie Review

Review by Siddhartha on 22nd June 2009

"Muthirai" is a movie that as a viewer you would have loved to see if the director had put more thought process into the plot and to the screenplay. Unfortunately director Srinath decided to flick a hollywood style run and chase movie and then he added to it lots of skin show by the leading ladies to make it suit the local audience which actually does not go all that well in the end product. The movie infact has a very talented star cast which has not been utlised properly by the director and in the end all we get to see is a very average movie.

Thoranai Movie Review

Review by Siddhartha on 11th June 2009

Vishal's latest flick "Thoranai" is a full-masala entertainer but the only issue with this entertainer is that the proportions to make the masala attractive has gone totally wrong. The movie is an age old story which is predominantly a cat and mouse game between the hero and few rowdies and at the same time he has a good-looking heroine to romance with. There is nothing new in this movie and infact in lot of the places the pace of the movie puts one to sleep. Vishal post his "Satyam" debacle was expected to choose a story which will put his drooping career back on track.Read More

Angels And Demons Movie Review

Review by Siddhartha on 8th June 2009

After the stupendous success of "Da Vinci Code" director Ron Howard has come up with his latest adaptation of Dan Brown's novel "Angels And Demons" which to be very honest is an entertaining film provided you as a viewer has not gone through the best selling novel by the same name. The movie which has been suitably modified to suit the cinematic audience is interesting and at the same time absolutely fantastic in the computer graphics department. The lead actors and the supporting cast have put in their best effort in making this movie a huge success.

Sarvvam Movie Review

Review by Siddhartha on 16th May 2009

Director Vishnu Vardhan after his brilliant "Billa" was expected to deliver another intresting and a racy entertainer in Ayangran International's "Sarvvam" but in the end one feels totally let down by Vishnu in all aspects. Sarvvam which was widely publicised as a thriller turns out to be a damp squib. The director has handled a wafer thin-plot in a very poor way and the major saving grace for the movie is the brilliant cinematography by Nirav Shah and the songs by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Arya after his commercially disastrous "Naan Kadavul" has done nothing new in this movie.

Pasanga Movie Review

Review by Siddhartha on 4th May 2009

Director M.Sasi Kumar after his scintillating "Subramaniapuram" has produced this realistic movie which has been directed by debutant Pandiraj. This movie is different from others for the reason that there are no heroes in the movie and the entire story revolves around the kids and their mindset they develop during their early days in school. The commercial films which has a said formula has been pushed back by this movie which has many talented children making their debut on silver screen. Pasanga is a movie taken for the children and for most part of it the essence of the story remains the same void of any commercial elements.Read More

Mariyathai Movie Review

Review by Siddhartha on 26th April 2009

Amma Creations after their successful comeback film "Saroja" have produced this heavy weight "Mariyathai" (Respect) that has Vijayakanth in the lead and Vikraman as the captain of the ship handling the story, screenplay, dialogues and direction. The duo who had made the super hit "Vaanathai Pola" years back has made an unsuccessful attempt to re-create the same old magic at the box-office. The story has got nothing new to offer nor the screenplay which has the trademark Vikraman's stamp that fails to kindle any interest amongst the viewers.

Ayan Movie Review

Review by Siddhartha on 6th April 2009

Ayan which has hit the screens lately is not an ideal follow-up for the emotionally captivating "Vaaranam Aayiram" which was Surya's last release. Ayan is a must watch if you as a viewer like the larger than life hero bashing up the bad guys and simultaneously romancing the beautiful girl available around. The movie begins on a very classy note where Deva (surya) walks out of the immigration counter at the Chennai International Airport only to find out within minutes that he is a pirated CD smuggler who knows the nuances of sneaking pirated goods through customs.

If the movie name "One Man's Treasure" gives you an idea that it would be an adventorous one involving some sort of treasure hunt or if you were expecting a movie on the lines of "National Treasure", well be prepared because this movie is about finding a treasure but the treasure is of a different kind. Videsh Movie Review

Review by Siddhartha on 31st March 2009

Deepa Mehta's "Videsh" is a movie which stands to the expectations from a director who has been very good at handling sensitive themes that are predominantly woman-centric. Even in her previous movies like "Fire", "Earth" and a few more the distinct fact is that the woman in the movie is the one who happens to be in the thick of things. If her previous films dealt with different issues, "Videsh" deals with domestic violence, and by casting preity zinta deepa mehta has hit the bull's eye in terms of an actor who understands the charecter and performs on screen.

Yaavarum Nalam Movie Review

Review by Siddhartha on 13th March 2009

Madhavan who has been associated mostly with the romance genre type of movies has come up with a completely matured performance in this thriller genre and to be very honest he has been quite sucessful too. The director Vikram K Kumar must be given the complete credit for making this movie with lots of eerie feel and this movie does keep you at the edge of your seat throughout and at times shakes you out of it too.
A simple story line complimented with an amazing screenplay and terrific performances from the actors, this movie makes you sit through without any trouble.

20th Century Fox presents "Behind Enemy Lines Colombia" is an action packed movie right from the start till finish. Its pretty sad that this movie was taken or rather could be released on the video version only. Delhi 6 Movie Review

Review by Siddhartha on 21st February 2009

After "Rang De Basanti" its director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra was expected to come up with a movie that was more interesting and revolutionary. "Delhi 6" is a revolutionary movie with an important message for every human being, but on the whole there is nothing much interesting in this latest flick which was one of the most awaited movies of the year and even with its terrific star cast it fails to re-create the same magic which "Rang De Basanti" did a few years ago. Even Abhishek's style and Sonam Kapoor's elegance fails to save this movie. Read More

Dead Like Me (2009) Movie Review

Review by Siddhartha on 10th February 2009

Metro Golden Mayer's "Dead Like Me" is a movie based on the concept that a suffering soul will be relieved of his/her life by the reapers. Though the concept is unnatural the way the movie has been made is pretty ordinary and not to mention the graphics where the demons appear to make the final blow to the parting soul.
The movie begins with the theory of evolution of death and a pretty imaginative theory one should say and a self-narrative of the reapers and their role in helping the suffering soul part with their lives. Read More

Naan Kadavul Movie Review

Review by Siddhartha on 7th February 2009

"Naan Kadavul" was in the making for three years, the movie has changed hands to three producers and the hero of the movie Arya's (spelt as Aarya in the movie) next major release "Sarvam" is likely to hit the theatres in three weeks time.

While She Was Out Movie Review

Review by Siddhartha on 4th February 2009

Redwood Palms Pictures "While She Was Out" is a very boring adaptation of a short story written by Edward Bryant. The director Susan Montford decided to make this movie just because he would have thought that the target audience would be awed by the subject. Though the main crux of the movie is pretty normal the treatment meeted out to the screenplay has been pathetic.

The movie supposedly on the thriller genre hardly has any thrilling scenes in it. Most of the movie is easily predictable and when this happens the whole eagerness towards the movie fades out. Read More

Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu Movie Review

Review by Siddhartha on 1st February 2009

"Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu" is an interesting movie where the entire story set in a rural village near pazhani keeps the audience glued to their seats for most part of the movie.
If "Chennai 600028, Lagaan" were about cricket and "ChakDe" was about hockey "Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu" is about Kabadi.
The story is about a kabadi group known as vennila and the struggle they undergo in life.
The movie with lot of new faces except the talented Saranya Mohan and Kishore is a daring effort from the director which is sure to bring in lot of accolades. Read More

Film Tiger Productions "Night Train" is not a pleasant viewing unless if you like the horror of the abnormal proportions type movies. What else can be said of a movie where you can see a human being being chopped off into different pieces and put into a box.

But in the end they have not been very successful in their attempt to replicate the same result. The director who had decided to re-make the hindi hit "Soldier" into tamil decided to add too much masala into it which has spoiled the entire dish. There are too much elements that have been compromised in the movie in a motive to please the die hard vijay fan. Read More

"Passengers" is a movie which belongs to the thriller genre. But when we sit through the movie all we get is only disappointment. The theme of the story seems to be so familiar to us especially when the director decides to copy movies like "Sixth Sense" and "The Others". In the end of it all the efforts put in by the cast and crew turns out to be a damp squib.

Chandni Chowk To China Movie Review

Review by Siddhartha on 16th January 2009

One of Hollywood's major production house "Warner Bros" could have asked for a better bollywood debut than "Chandni Chowk to China". Akshay Kumar and the team of talented actors have brought forward a movie which is a Bollywood kungfu comedy type movie where the buzz word is supposed to have been fun from start to finish. This movie would have been pretty nostalgic for Akshay kumar personally due to the reason that he before stepping into bollywood grew up in Chandni Chowk and was a chef in Bangkok before lady luck smiled on him. Bharatiraaja’s much awaited “Bommalattam” which was in the making for three years has finally hit the screens and for the viewer who has got a little bit of interest left in the movie has got more disappointments than anything at the end of the movie. One wonders how did a director with the caliber he possesses in handling the sentimental rural subject becomes a cropper in choosing such a naive and a stupid subject. Though the director claims that this movie is based on a real-life happening, the viewer fails to understand the logic behind choosing this subject to be made with Nana Patekar in the lead.
